Buttercream Icing
This recipe will make enough buttercream icing for a one-layered cake. If you have more layers, double or triple the batch accordingly. Watch the video to learn how to achieve a stylish ombre icing effect!

Cut up fresh fruit to dress the top of the cake.
Step 1
In a mixer, beat the butter until soft.
Step 2
Add the icing sugar a spatula at a time and mix well until light and fluffy.
Step 3
Add the milk and mix quickly to blend.
Step 4
You can use this icing as is or add some food colouring for an ombre effect.
Step 5
Add a small amount of red food colouring to your icing and mix.
Step 6
Take one third of the mixture and put into a small plastic bag.
Step 7
Add a little more food colouring to the remaining icing and mix.
Step 8
Take half of this mixture and place into another plastic bag.
Step 9
Add another small amount of food colouring and mix well.
Step 10
Place the remaining icing into a plastic bag. You now have three sets of icing in three shades of pink.
