The items around your house have a multitude of uses. Try some of these handy tips using products most of us have at home.

If you have a problem opening jars: Try using latex dishwashing gloves. They give a non-slip grip that makes opening jars easy.

When you get a splinter, reach for the sticky tape before resorting to tweezers or a needle. Simply put the scotch tape over the splinter and then pull it off. This removes most splinters painlessly and easily.

To restore finished wood furniture, steep two tea bags in hot water for 10 minutes. Let cool, then dampen a clean soft cloth with tea and wipe over wood furniture. It will bring out the woods natural colour and shine.

To clean oil based paint off of your hands, use a little sunflower oil. Then wash hands with warm soapy water.

To remove scuffs on white leather shoes or handbags, rub with metal polish, leave to dry then rub off with a clean cloth.
