Tomato Fondue

It is time to get friends and family around a table for a Fondue with a difference!

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle SPAR Italian Tomato Passata  (700 g)
  • 125 ml SPAR Tomato Sauce
  •   7 ml mixed dried Italian herbs
  • 2 large    cloves garlic, crushed

To dip

  • SPAR Freshline Brown Pita bread, each cut into 8 triangles
  • Mini chicken or beef meatballs
  • SPAR Butcher’s Best cocktail chicken viennas
  • SPAR Freshline baby corn
  • Oven-baked battered hake nuggets

Method

  1. In a microwaveable bowl, or in a pot on the stove, combine the first four ingredients.
  2. Bring slowly to simmer, stirring all the time. Remove from heat.
  3. Pour into a heatproof bowl, and serve immediately, surrounded with forks and your selection of dipping ingredients.

Hints & Tips

  • Traditionally of Swiss origin with lots of cheese, a fondue can be enjoyed with an Italian tomato based twist, with the benefit of lower fat and still lots of flavour!
  • If you don’t have a traditional fondue pot and fork set in the home, improvise with soup mugs, heatproof bowls and forks/spiked tip knifes or skewers.
