Sweet Cornbread Recipe

A South African classic recipe that can be served as a side dish or enjoyed by itself, spread with butter.

Recipe Ingredients

  • 80g sugar
  • 80g butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 2ml salt
  • 2 cans SPAR Creamed Sweetcorn
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup cream

Recipe Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 180C.
  2. Grease a medium size oven to table dish or a baking dish.
  3. Cream the butter and the sugar, add the eggs one by one and beat through after each addition.
  4. Stir through the salt, sweetcorn and cornmeal.
  5. Spoon into the prepared dish.
  6. Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Pour the cream over and bake for an additional 10 minutes.
