Savoury Rice and Sausages Recipe

A tasty and economical family meal which can be doubled up for an extended family get together.

Recipe Ingredients

  • 1 litre water
  • 500g SPAR rice
  • 15ml ground turmeric
  • 2 tablespoons SPAR canola oil
  • 330g SPAR Tender and Tasty Braai Buster Sausages, sliced into rounds
  • 1 SPAR Freshline onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves SPAR Freshline garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup SPAR frozen peas
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Recipe Method

  1. Rinse the rice in cold water until the water runs clear. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large pot, bring the water to a boil. Add the ground turmeric and stir to combine.
  3. Add the rice to the pot and stir to combine. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot with a lid, and simmer for 15-20 minutes until the rice is cooked through and the water is absorbed.
  4. While the rice is cooking, heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over medium-high heat.
  5. Add the sliced sausages to the pan and cook for 5-7 minutes until browned on all sides.
  6. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pan and sauté for 2-3 minutes until softened.
  7. Add the frozen peas to the pan and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until heated through.
  8. Once the rice is cooked, add it to the skillet with the sausage mixture and stir to combine.
  9. Season well with salt and pepper to taste. Serve sprinkled with chopped parsley.
