Recipe Ingredients

  • 150 g SPAR macaroni pasta
  • 300 ml SPAR milk
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 clove SPAR Freshline garlic, finely chopped
  • 30 ml SPAR butter
  • 30 ml SPAR cake flour
  • 100 g SPAR cheddar, grated
  • 50 g SPAR Marksbury Select Parmigiano Reggiano (or parmesan) grated
  • 15 ml smoked paprika
  • 1 handful of SPAR Freshline parsley, finely chopped
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 20 slices SPAR Bakery bread
  • 100 ml softened SPAR butter

Recipe Method

  1. Cook pasta according to instructions on packet, drain and set aside.
  2. Place milk, bay leaves and garlic in a medium-sized pot and bring to the boil. Remove from heat and allow to stand until milk is lukewarm.
  3. Melt butter in a clean pot, add flour and whisk over low heat until mixed. Add all the milk at once and keep whisking over high heat until a smooth, creamy white sauce forms, about 5-8 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in cheese, paprika and parsley. Fold in cooked macaroni. Taste and season with salt and pepper.
  5. Spread one side of each slice of bread with butter. Place one slice at a time in jaffle iron, buttered side facing down. Spoon macaroni on top.
  6. Place second slice of bread on top, buttered side facing up. Close iron and trim off excess bread.
  7. Fry over low heat for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown.
  8. Remove from iron and make more jaffles with the rest of the bread and filling. Serve warm.
