Spatchcock Chicken with Vegetables Recipe

Recipe Ingredients

  • 1 SPAR Tender & Tasty Ready-To- Heat Spatchcock Chicken 


  • 4 Whole Freshline Mealies
  • 60 ml SPAR Butter
  • 45 ml freshly chopped Coriander
  • 5 ml Paprika

Butternut and Baby Marrow

  • 500g SPAR Freshline Butternut chips
  • SPAR Freshline Baby Marrows
  • 45 ml SPAR Butter
  • 5 ml cinnamon
  • 3 ml cumin
  • 15 ml SPAR Honey

Recipe Method

  1. Remove all packaging and braai chicken on a grid over a hot fire or gas braai.  Turn occasionally and baste with the left over marinade.  Braai for about 25 minutes or until the chicken is heated through.  There are also roasting and microwave instructions on the packaging.
  2. For the mealies: Mix the Butter, Coriander and Paprika together.
  3. Pull the husks of the mealies back. Rub the 4 mealies with the flavoured butter and then braai over medium to hot coals turning frequently until cooked.  Alternatively oven roast at 180 for approximately 20 minutes.  Remove all husks if oven roasting.
  4. Serve dollops of the Flavoured butter over the hot braaied mealies.
  5. For the Butternut Chips and baby Marrow: Combine the SPAR butter, cinnamon, cumin and honey.  Rub over the butternut chips and baby marrows.  Wrap in foil and oven bake or braai for about 20 minutes until soft and cooked through.

Hints & Tips

If you don’t feel like preparing vegetables serve the chicken with SPAR Freshline salad and some SPAR Freshline Rolls instead.
