Pavlova with Poached Pears Recipe

Spicy poached pears make a deliciously different topping to a classic pavlova

Recipe Ingredients

  • 4 SPAR Freshline pears, peeled and cored
  • 3 cups dry white wine
  • 125ml red wine vinegar
  • 250ml SPAR castor sugar
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 4 cloves
  • 3 star anise
  • 1 SPAR Bakery festive pavlova
  • Whipped cream, to serve
  • Toasted flaked almonds, to garnish

Recipe Method

  1. Add the pears, wine, red wine vinegar, sugar and spices to a medium-sized pot.
  2. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and allow to simmer until the pears are tender, 45 minutes. Turn the pears occasionally in the liquid so they cook evenly on all sides.
  3. Once the pears are tender, remove from the liquid and set aside.
  4. To assemble your pavlova, top with whipped cream, poached pears, a drizzle of poaching liquid and toasted flaked almonds and serve.
