Recipe Ingredients

For the cupcakes

  • 3 large eggs
  • 250 ml SPAR white sugar
  • 240 g SPAR cake flour
  • 1 ml salt
  • 15 ml baking powder
  • 250 ml SPAR vanilla flavoured drinking yoghurt (reserve 50 ml for icing)
  • 125 ml SPAR margarine, melted

For the icing

  • 500ml icing sugar
  • 50ml SPAR vanilla flavoured drinking yoghurt (reserved from the cupcake mixture)
  • Assorted Food colouring

For the worm slush

  • Fruit Juice or Ice Tea
  • Sour Worm sweets

Recipe Method

  1. Preheat oven with shelf in centre position, to 180 ºC. Grease or paper cup-cake line 2 SPAR Good Living cup cake pans.
  2. In a large SPAR Good Living 3 litre porcelain mixing bowl, whisk the eggs until fluffy and pale. Gradually beat in the sugar.
  3. Blend in the dry ingredients, and lastly add in the yoghurt and melted margarine, beating to a smooth batter.
  4. Spoon mixture evenly into the prepared pans, and bake for 15 minutes.
  5. Transfer onto a rack to cool.
  6. Combine 500 ml SPAR icing sugar with the remaining 50 ml drinking yoghurt. Keep some white icing aside for piping the web, and colour the rest. Using a warmed knife, spread over this icing. Allow this icing layer to set thoroughly before proceeding with the spider-web pattern on top.

For spider-web icing

  1. Spoon the reserved white icing, into the SPAR Good Living piping bag fitted with the writing nozzle.
  2. Squeeze the bag continuously to pipe one complete whorl, with even spaces between.
  3. Immediately, drag a skewer at intervals, through the piped line, from centre to the outside, for the web design.

Worm Slush

  1. Freeze a choice of SPAR fruit juices and iced teas into plastic bowls or jugs.
  2. Using a SPAR Good Living premium masher, crush the semi-frozen juices into ''slush'' and transfer into SPAR Good Living glass jugs. Add in sour-worm sweets! Provide small plastic bowls or tumblers with teaspoons, for children to enjoy this as an alternative to ice cream.

Hints & Tips

Plastic snakes, lizards etc are widely available in toy shops, and can be placed in and around the party food on the table to create the look.
