Braaied Tomahawk Steak with Golden Curry Butter Recipe

A tomahawk steak is a slightly thicker cut ribeye with more of the bone left on. It is delicious braaied on hot coals and smothered with flavoured butter after cooking.

Recipe Ingredients

  • SPAR Steak Co. Tomahawk steak
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 10ml garlic salt
  • 15ml paprika
  • Leaves of 3 sprigs of SPAR Freshline rosemary, finely chopped
  • 5ml mixed dried herbs
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper
 

Curry Butter

  • 100g SPAR butter, at room temperature
  • 10ml medium curry powder
  • 5ml ground cumin
  • 2ml smoked chilli flakes

 
 

Recipe Method

  1. Make a rub for the steak by combining salt and pepper, garlic salt, paprika, chopped rosemary, dried herbs and cayenne pepper in a bowl.  Rub all over the steak and set aside.
  2. To make the curry butter, add the softened butter and other ingredients to a small bowl. Stir to combine and season to taste.
  3. Prepare the braai to hot coals. Braai the steak over hot coals to your liking, about 3 minutes per side for medium. Rest the steak for 10 minutes before slicing.
  4. Serve hot steak with dollops of curry butter.
