Banana and Choc Chip Bread Recipe

You'll never get tired of this banana bread recipe studded with chunks of delicious chocolate.

Makes one standard loaf cake

Recipe Ingredients

  • ½ cup SPAR butter, at room temperature
  • 1 cup SPAR brown sugar
  • 2 SPAR eggs
  • 4 ripe SPAR Freshline bananas, mashed well with a fork or masher
  • 1 Tbsp SPAR full fat milk
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract or essence
  • 2 slabs (80g each) chocolate of your choice, chopped
  • 2 cups SPAR cake wheat flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 extra SPAR Freshline banana for finishing, sliced into three, lengthways

Recipe Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C and line a 21x11x6cm loaf tin (or something close to that size).
  2. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one by one, beating well after each addition.
  4. Add bananas, milk, cinnamon and vanilla extract and then sift in dry ingredients.
  5. Add the chocolate chips and mix well but don’t overmix.
  6. Spoon into the prepared loaf tin and carefully lay the banana slices on the top.
  7. Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes – but start checking at around 1 hour by carefully inserting a test pen.
