Spicy Chicken Livers

Spicy Chicken Livers
This quick and affordable meal is a great source of protein and is perfect for a cool autumn’s evening. There is plenty of spicy sauce to pour over some rice or to dip a fresh slice of bread into.
Spicy Chicken Livers
  • Cook Time: 20 minutes

  • Serves: 6

Ingredients

  • 30ml SPAR canola oil
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 SPAR Freshline garlic cloves, crushed
  • 250g SPAR Freshline sliced mushrooms, rinsed and patted dry
  • 5ml barbeque spice
  • 500 g thawed chicken livers
  • 250ml SPAR canned diced tomato
  • 100ml SPAR hot fruit chutney

Method

  1. Heat oil in a large pan and sauté the onion until soft. Add on the garlic and mushrooms and continue to sauté for 2 minutes.
  2. Mix the spice into the chicken livers before adding it to the pan and frying until brown.
  3. Pour in the diced tomato and chutney and stir until the sauce thickens. Simmer for 5 minutes and then serve on a bed of cooked SPAR Brown Basmati Rice or phutu or mashed potato if preferred.
  • If you prefer a hotter Portuguese-style dish, use peri-peri spice in combination with the barbeque spice in Step 1
