Pamper Party
A party that’s perfect for little ladies. Whether your friends come for a sleep over or just for the afternoon or evening you are sure to have a ball with this delicious Chocolate Fudge Cake. Perfect for pampering the VIP guests.
Pamper Party

  • Prep Time: 30 mins Cook Time: 1 hour 45 minutes

  • Serves: 4 - 6

Ingredients

  • 250g SPAR butter
  • 250g dark chocolate
  • 40ml SPAR instant coffee
  • 180ml water
  • 150g SPAR self raising flour
  • 150g SPAR cake wheat flour
  • 60g SPAR cocoa powder
  • 3ml bicarbonate of soda
  • 550g SPAR castor sugar
  • 4 SPAR eggs
  • 40ml SPAR sunflower oil
  • 125ml SPAR sour cream
To Assemble The Handbag Cake 
  • 250g SPAR butter
  • 500g SPAR icing sugar
  • 30g SPAR cocoa
  • Hot water
  • 1 chocolate fudge cake (see recipe)
  • 1kg plastic icing (either buy the colour you want already mixed or use a gel food colour and mix your own).
  • Icing flowers
  • Silver balls
This cake can also be iced with butter icing only.  Leave out the cocoa and add food colouring of your choice.  Use a marshmallow rope or liquorice strips for handles.

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 160°C.
  2. Line the base of a 25cm diameter round cake tin.  Grease the tin.
  3. Gently melt the butter, chocolate, coffee and water together in a pan on low heat.
  4. Sift the dry ingredients together.  Add the sugar.
  5. In another bowl, combine the eggs, oil and sour cream.
  6. Pour the egg mixture and chocolate mixture into the dry ingredients.  Mix well.
  7. Pour this mixture into the prepared cake tin.
  8. Bake for approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean.
To Assemble The Handbag Cake
  1. Cream butter and icing sugar together using an electric mixer until soft, fluffy and light.  Add the cocoa and enough hot water to get a soft creamy butter icing.
  2. Cut the cake in half to form 2 half circles. Ice the 2 half circles together with the butter icing.
  3. Stand the cake on a cake board and cover the cake completely with the butter icing.
  4. Roll out the plastic icing. Using the cake tin as a template, cut out 2 half circles to form the sides of the bag.  Place these on carefully. 
  5. Measure the gap left on the top of the cake and cut a strip of icing to cover it.  Using a pastry wheel (or kids play dough roller), roll down the centre to make a zip.  Use a different wheel to make stitching along the edge. Place carefully onto the cake.  
  6. Roll a final piece to form the clasp. We used a textured roller for this however it is not necessary.  You could use a different colour icing or leave it plain.  Place on the bag. 
  7. Cover a piece of florist wire with icing for the handle.
  8. Decorate with icing flowers or silver balls, pressing them into the icing while it is still soft or gluing them on later with a little icing.
  • Print out our free downloadable Pamper Party invitations, bunting and other party stationery.
  • Choose your colour scheme. We went with a deep pink and turquoise blue.  Pink and purple work well together too.
  • If your guests are staying over, remind them to bring a pillow and sleeping bag.
  • Use balloons to show your friends where the party is.  Hang them on the gate or along the road. Balloons can instantly create a festive party atmosphere.
  • Dress code should be favourite pyjamas or a onesie.
  • Let the birthday girl and her guests explore their creative and fashionable sides by experimenting with make-up styles and different outfits.
  • Temporary tattoos are also great fun.
  • Fill the room with cushions, fashion magazines and a top selection of tunes so they can relax in true, birthday mode.
Take it home: 

Wrap up a few beauty products like bars of soap or cotton wool balls in netting and tie with a pretty bow. SPAR has a lovely range including facial wipes, cotton buds, tissues, ear buds and soaps.
You can also look for lipsticks, nail varnish or pretty trinkets such as necklace’s or hair accessories.

Food and Drink

Have plenty of SPAR bottled water (still or flavoured).  
Hot dogs make a simple easy dinner that everyone likes or another favourite munchie is pizza.
Fresh strawberries and Squillos marshmallows make special treats.
Squillos hot chocolate makes the perfect nightcap.
