As the days get shorter and the winter chill really begins to set in so does a touch of cabin fever.So here are a few fun activities and ideas designed to make the most of the indoors.
These ideas are also fantastic for a unique craft-themed party and what's more, the kids get to take their gift home. It is even more appreciated because they made it themselves.

Mug Cozy

An activity to keep the kids entertained and your drinks warm.


You will need

  • Scissors
  • Felt (any colour you like plus scraps to make decorations)
  • Clear glue
  • 1 straight sided mug
  • Finished product

Instructions

  1. Cut the main colour felt to a size that will wrap around your mug
  2. Cut out flowers, stars, shapes and letters with the rest of the felt.
  3. Glue the decoration onto the middle of the felt.
  4. Glue the prestud onto each side of the felt.
  5. Wait for it to dry.

Melting Snowmen

A delightful treat,  to make the most of a winter’s day. 


You will need

  • Edible Gel pens
  • Icing tools - pens, bags, etc
  • One packet SPAR Marie biscuits
  • SPAR Icing Sugar
  • Marshmallows

Instructions

  1. Mix the icing sugar with water to make a sticky consistency icing sugar – leave it to one side.
  2. Cut your marshmallow in half and put it on the biscuit.
  3. Cover the biscuit and the marshmallow with the icing sugar and refrigerate.
  4. When the icing is hard, take out the biscuits and get ready to decorate.
  5. The raised marshmallow is the snowman’s face, the rest of the biscuit is his body
For a more dramatic effect, let the icing drip over the biscuit onto the plate.

Snow Globe

If it is has to be cold it might as well snow. Here’s a fun and economical way to make your own snowy landscape.
 

You will need

  • Clear glue
  • Glitter
  • Plastic toy
  • Clean empty jar with a lid

Instructions

  1. Place the lid of the jar facing upwards.
  2. Glue your toy to the lid so that it is facing the right way up to you.
  3. Leave the glue to dry.
  4. Fill the jar with water and glitter.
  5. Check your toy is really stuck tight!
  6. Put the lid on.
  7. Turn upside down and check for air pockets.
  8. Once you are satisfied with the look of your globe, seal it with clear glue.

Chocolate Spoons

A decadent hot chocolate, that’s fun to make too! 
 


You will need 

  • 1 slab of chocolate
  • 1 chocolate mould (or ice-cube mould)
  • 6 teaspoons

Instructions

  1. Melt the chocolate.
  2. A great and safe way for kids to do this is by placing the whole slab still in its wrapping into a container of warm water. The chocolate will melt and you can snip the end of the packet and pour it into the mould.
  3. Let the chocolate set a little in the freezer.
  4. Add the spoons and let it set completely in the freezer.
  5. Store in the fridge when set.
  6. To make the hot chocolate, heat up a mug of milk, then stir your chocolate spoon into the milk.

Rice Bag Warmer 

To keep warm when you need it most! 


You will need

  • Felt +/- 50cm by 40 cm
  • 1 kg SPAR rice (not parboiled)
  • Sewing kit and sewing machine
  • Spice, rosemary, chamomile etc to give your bag a scent

Instructions 

  1. Fold your felt in half and sew two of the open sides.
  2. Sew the third side, leaving a space to turn the bag inside out and to pour the rice into.
  3. Turn the bag out, add the rice and the scent you like.
  4. Sew the corner.
  5. Place in the microwave on high for no longer than 2 mins.
