What is SPAR Rewards?

SPAR Rewards are electronic product coupons designed to help you - our valuable customer - save money.

Why should I register for SPAR Rewards?

Unlike most Loyalty Programmes where you earn points as you spend, with SPAR Rewards you get an instant rand value off at the end of your purchase. 

How do I register for SPAR Rewards?

Regisration is a once off process and is quick and easy. There are three ways to register for SPAR Rewards:
  1. SPAR Rewards Card: If you have received a SPAR Rewards Card, you can simply dial the USSD number on the back of the card. This is a once off activation call, then follow the on screen instructions. Once completed, you will be registered for SPAR Rewards and the card linked to your account.
  2. Web: Go to the Mobi site http://me.spar.co.za and enter your cellphone number. You will have a few easy registration steps to follow. Once completed you are registered. If you are already registered, you will just need to type in your cellphone number and password.
  3. App: Search for and download the SPAR SA mobile app. Once the application is downloaded, open it and follow the on screen instructions.

Why do you need my cellphone number?

All SPAR Rewards will be communicated to you via your cellphone, so your cellphone number is required in order for SPAR to identify and Reward you. SPAR has taken steps to ensure the safety of your private information and will not share your details with any third party.

How do I know what SPAR Rewards are available to me?

There are a number of ways to view current SPAR Rewards:
  1. SMS: Every two weeks, you will automatically be sent an SMS with a new set of SPAR Rewards products. We will communicate these with you directly via your cellphone. If you have opted out, you can opt into receiving these notifications again via the “Update Details” menu on the USSD application, or the “My Account” tab on the Web and Mobile applications.
  2. In Store: Please lookout for our SPAR Rewards posters in store which will provide you with the current SPAR Rewards products available to you at any given time. Note that there is a limit to the number of coupons available per product, so it’s best to review your Rewards on any of the channels below.
  3. USSD: Dial *120*7070# and select Option 1 (View Rewards). Follow the instructions on screen to view all Rewards available to you.
  4. Web: Sign into the Mobi site http://me.spar.co.za. If you have not registered, simply follow the on screen instructions. Once signed in, click the Rewards tab, find and click on your SPAR store. You will be presented with an overview of SPAR Rewards available to you.
  5.  App: Launch the SPAR application and tap on the Rewards tab. Find and tap on your SPAR store. You will be presented with an overview of SPAR Rewards available to you.

Where can SPAR Rewards be redeemed?

SPAR Rewards can be redeemed at any SUPERSPAR store. 

How do I redeem SPAR Rewards?

Firstly, ensure you are registered for SPAR Rewards (see How do I register for SPAR Rewards above). Note that this is a once off process.

Once registered, all you need is your cellphone number or an active SPAR Rewards card (see below for more information on the SPAR Rewards card). Before paying at a SPAR till, inform the cashier that you are a SPAR Rewards customer. You will be asked to type in your cellphone number on to the keypad or swipe your SPAR Rewards Card. If you have any items in your basket that match SPAR Rewards available to you, you will receive your instant discount.

What is the SPAR Rewards card for?

At any time you can link a SPAR Rewards card to your account. A SPAR Rewards card is an easy and convenient way to redeem Rewards in store. If you have an active SPAR Rewards Card, your card is simply scanned to verify your redemption. If you do not have a SPAR Rewards Card, you will need to enter your mobile number at the till with every purchase.

Note that you can only have one active SPAR Rewards Card linked your account at any time.

How do I activate my SPAR Rewards card?

The easiest way to register your SPAR Rewards card is to dial the USSD number on the back of the card and follow the on screen instructions. Once activated, you can use the card to redeem SPAR Rewards in store. You will only need to dial the number once for permanent activation to SPAR Rewards!

Alternatively, you can activate the card in the following ways:
  1. Mobi Site: Sign into http://me.spar.co.za and click the My Account tab and then then “My SPAR Card” icon. Follow the on-screen instructions to link your new SPAR Card.
  2. App: Launch the mobile application and click the My Account tab and then the “My SPAR Card” menu option. Follow the on-screen instructions to link your new SPAR Card.

What should I do if I lose my SPAR Rewards card?

Simply grab a new SPAR Rewards card in store and activate it. Activating a new card will auomatically deactivate your old card.

Can I redeem SPAR Rewards if I don't have my SPAR Rewards card?

Definitely! If you find yourself in store without your SPAR Rewards card simply inform the teller that you are a SPAR Rewards customer and that you don’t have your card on you. The teller will ask you to enter your mobile number to confirm that you have an active account.

Can I link multiple SPAR Rewards cards to my account?

Only one SPAR Rewards card can be active on your account at any time.

Do SPAR Rewards expire?

SPAR Rewards are only valid for a specific period, after which time we will change the Rewards products. Please take note of the expiry dates on the USSD, Web and Mobile applications. The expiry date is also included on the SMS notifications sent to you.

I did not receive a discount when I should have, what should I do?

If you did not receive a discount for a purchase, please check the following:
  1. Verify that you are registered for SPAR Rewards. Simply dial *120*7070# on your mobile phone. If you are immediately presented with the main menu to View Rewards, then you are registered. If you used a card to redeem, please ensure the card is linked to your account. Follow the instructions under How do I activate my SPAR Rewards card to verify the card you used is active and linked to your account.
  2. Double check that the SPAR store you purchased at supports SPAR Rewards (see Where can I redeem SPAR Rewards question above).
  3. Double check that the products you expected to receive the discount on are available to you as Rewards (see How do I know what SPAR Rewards are available to me). Note the number of coupons available for each Reward as you may have run out. Also note that SPAR Rewards expire so ensure you have purchased the products in the specified time window.

I forgot my password, how do I reset it?

The USSD and Mobile App do not require a password. If you are using either of these applications simply launch them to continue.

If you are using the web application and have forgotten your password, simply navigate to http://me.spar.co.za, enter your mobile number and then tap the “Forgort Password?” link below the password field and then follow the on screen instructions.

I want to receive SPAR Rewards but don’t want to receive marketing SMS messages and emails, can I opt out?

If you would like to opt out of SPAR Rewards SMS notifications, simply reply “STOP” to any of the messages we have sent you. You will receive a reply confirming that you have been opted out of communication. Alternatively, you can manage your notification settings on any of the apps as follows:
  1. USSD: Dial *120*7070# from your phone and select Option 3 (Update Details) and then Option 2 (Manage Notifications). You can opt in or out from the screen that follows.
  2. Web: Sign into http://me.spar.co.za and then click the “My Account” tab and then the “My Settings” icon. Follow the on screen instructions to update your notification settings.
  3. App: Launch the application and tap the “My Account” menu option and then tap “My Settings”. Follow the on screen instructions to update your notification settings.

How do I deactivate my SPAR Rewards account?

If you are absolutely sure you wish to deactivate your account then follow the instructions for the relevant channel below. Any active SPAR Rewards card will be automatically deactivated too. Note you can register again at any time but your previous account history will be lost.
  1. USSD: Dial *120*7070# from your phone and select Option 3 (Update Details) and then Option 3 (Deactivate Account). Follow the on-screen instructions.
  2. Web: Sign into http://me.spar.co.za and then click the “My Account” tab and then the “My Settings” icon. Follow the on screen instructions to deactiavate your account.
  3. App: Launch the application and tap the “My Account” menu option and then tap “My Settings”. Follow the on screen instructions to deactivate your account.

What happens if I get a new mobile number?

Simply register using your new phone number. If you had an active SPAR Rewards card before you changed your mobile number, it is important to grab a new card in store and activate it using your new mobile number. Use your new mobile number and new SPAR Rewards card for all rewards redemptions going forward.
