Meatball- Getti Recipe

Recipe Ingredients

  • 2 slices SPAR  Low GI Brown Wholegrain bread, crusts removed
  • 250 ml water
  • 500 g    ostrich mince or lean beef topside mince
  • 1 large SPAR egg
  • 2 ml  salt
  • Generous grinding black pepper
  • 400g pouch SPAR Cook-In Sauce (Roasted Red Pepper or Tomato&Mushroom)
  • To accompany:  wholewheat spaghetti

Recipe Method

  1. In a mixing bowl, soak the bread in the water for a few minutes then squeeze and discard the water from the bread. Combine this moist bread with the mince, egg and seasonings. 
  2. Form into 14 golf-ball size balls and pack them closely in a shallow oven dish.
  3.  Pour over the sauce, cover and microwave at a 60% Power level for 15 minutes.
  4. Boil the spaghetti during this time.
  5. Set meatballs aside for 5 minutes before serving with a little crumbled reduced-fat feta cheese, or a generous spoonful of low fat chunky plain or herb cottage cheese.

Hints & Tips

If your microwave oven has a wattage rating lower than 900, (ask an adult), increase the cooking time by 3-4 minutes.
