Simple Household Tips
  • Keep your cupboards dry: A bundle of chalk tied together and hung in a cupboard will absorb any moisture and keep cloths dry and fresh. You can even use a pretty ribbon or tie them up in some netting.
  • Keep your clothes on the hanger: Twist a pipe cleaner on each end. This will give the clothes grip and they won’t slip off.
  • Colour code hangers: If each family member has their own colour, it makes putting the clothes away much easier.
  • Removing price labels from glass or ceramics: Toothpaste works well for this. Rub on gently and the sticker and glue will come off.
  • Keeping the paint tray clean:  When painting, line the paint tray with a SPAR supermarket packet.  You just fold up the packet afterwards and throw it away. Saves on paint cleaners and is better for the environment.
  • Paint brushes: If you have a break for lunch or tea, wrap your brushes with SPAR cling wrap.  This will stop air drying the paint.  For brushes that have hardened because they have not been cleaned properly, try a solution of SPAR vinegar and water.
  • To clean vases or decanters with a thin neck: Place some crushed egg shell into the glass. Swirl around.  The egg shells will help clean the sides.  You can use a weak solution of bleach for stubborn marks.
  • Compact plastic bottles: When recycling plastic bottles, sqeezing the air out first makes them much more compact. You will use less bin bags and take up less space for transporting.
