Easy As A, B, C
Try these easy-to-make oat balls and bars for a quick sweet treat.
Kid's love to snack between meals, and choosing which treats are both delicious and nutritious can be challenging. We share five of our favourite snacks, including the very popular oat balls!

Apricot Balls


Ingredients

  • Lemon Juice (add to taste)
  • 4 Cups Oats
  • 1½ Cups of boiling water
  • 8 Tablespoons honey (add to taste)
  • Add: A handful of finely chopped apricot, 1 banana, a handful of sunflower seeds, and a handful of coconut flakes.

Method

Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Line a baking dish with wax paper. Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl. Take tablespoon-sized portions and roll into balls. Once you've used all the mixture, place in a preheated oven for 12 minutes or until the top is golden brown: or refrigerate for four hours.

Peanut butter and banana bars


Ingredients

  • Lemon Juice (add to taste)
  • 4 Cups Oats
  • 1½ Cups of boiling water
  • 8 Tablespoons honey (add to taste)
  • 2 Tablespoons peanut butter
  • 1 Tablespoon cocoa
  • 1 Handful of coconut flakes

Method

Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Line a baking dish with wax paper. Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl. Transfer the mixture into a baking dish and using the back of a wooden spoon or a spatula, press the mixture down well. Bake in a preheated oven for 15 minutes and, once golden brown, remove from the oven. Once cooled, cut into little squares or rectangular bars.

Cocoa and date balls

Ingredients

  • Lemon Juice (add to taste)
  • 4 Cups Oats
  • 1½ Cups of boiling water
  • 8 Tablespoons honey (add to taste)
  • Add: A handful of finely chopped dates, ½ a banana, a handful of sunflower seeds, a handful of coconut flakes, and a tablespoon of cocoa.

Method

Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Line a baking dish with wax paper. Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl. Savoury Popcorn

Ingredients

  • Popcorn kernels
  • Olive, cooking or coconut oil
  • Cinnamon, brown sugar, rosemary (spices to taste as preferred)

Method

Add enough oil and popcorn to lightly cover the bottom of the pot. Remove pot from the stove once you hear the popping slow down. Pour popcorn into a serving bowl and add the spices.

Goji berry balls


Ingredients

  • Lemon Juice (add to taste)
  • 4 Cups Oats
  • 1½ Cups of boiling water
  • 8 Tablespoons honey (add to taste)
  • Add: handful of goji berries, 1 banana, a handful of sunflower seeds, and a handful of coconut flakes.

Method

Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Line a baking dish with wax paper. Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl.
