Hillhouse
Hillhouse was a modest shed before becoming the modern house it is today. Large and spacious, accommodating up to a dozen guests, it lends itself to getaways with both family and friends. And the raw steel fireplace is sure to be a focal point around which winter guests gravitate, armed with great wine and board games. The scale and light at play in the space may try steal the show, but the eclectic collection of furniture and Boo the Pugwill put up stiff competition.
Forest House
Forest House, 600 meters from Hillhouse, was built from the ground up and boasts a number of recycled elements – from Rhodesian teak parquet flooring, to the doors, frames and windows. There is a revolving steel fireplace to heat the double-volume room. Also a 12-sleeper, the house has four en-suite bedrooms and a mezzanine with four beds, making it ideal for couples with children (old enough to navigate the stairs).
Lakehouse
Lakehouse, with a wrap around veranda and views over the valley, has two bedrooms – perfect for two couples or a small family. The lawn looks good enough to roll around on, or throw down a picnic blanket and take in the fresh air and wide, open spaces.
All three houses have fully equipped kitchens, braai facilities and fireplaces, ideal for summer or winter breaks. And are all pet-friendly.
If you can tear yourself away from the comforts indoors, it’s well worth it. The farm offers cycling and walking trails, and is a fw kilometres from Midmar, where you can fish or swim, sail or sunbathe.
