Pickled Fish Recipe
Tangy fish marinated in vinegar and spices, a traditional South African delicacy for gatherings.
Recipe Ingredients
- 550 g SPAR frozen hake fillets
- 80 g spicy coating mix
- SPAR Canola oil for frying
- 1 medium SPAR Freshline onion, sliced
- 3 cloves
- 1 tsp curry powder
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 2 lemon leaves
- 3 tbsp SPAR apricot jam
- 300 ml SPAR white vinegar
- 150 ml water
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 50 ml brown sugar
- 1 tsp ginger and garlic paste
- Salt to taste
- 70 ml sultanas
Recipe Method
- Partially thaw fish. Coat with spicy mix.
- Fry in oil until golden. Set aside.
- Sauté onion. Add cloves, curry, coriander, lemon leaves, and jam.
- Add vinegar, water, turmeric, sugar, ginger, garlic. Simmer.
- Stir in sultanas. Season with salt.
- Pour sauce over fish. Cool. Refrigerate.
Serve chilled after allowing flavours to develop for a day or two.
