Recipe Ingredients

  • 300 g SPAR macaroni
  • 60 g SPAR Choice butter
  • 60 g SPAR Cake Wheat flour
  • 550 ml SPAR full cream milk, lukewarm
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 250 g mixed cheeses (cheddar, mozzarella, parmesan), grated
  • 40 g breadcrumbs
  • 2 large ripe SPAR Freshline tomatoes, thinly sliced

Recipe Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 200 °C.
  2. Cook macaroni in boiling salted water for 9 minutes until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a pot, melt butter over medium heat. Blend in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes. Gradually whisk in milk until the sauce is smooth and slightly thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Stir in most of the cheese with the macaroni. Pour into a greased baking dish.
  5. Top with tomato slices, then sprinkle the breadcrumbs and remaining cheese mixture.
  6. Bake for 20 minutes until golden and bubbly. Rest for 10 minutes before serving.
