Enjoy this low carb version of a South African favourite


  • 30ml SPAR Choice Butter or Coconut Oil
  • 2 SPAR Freshline Onions, peeled and sliced
  • 15ml Curry Powder
  • 5ml Cumin
  • 5ml Turmeric
  • 600g SPAR Beef Mince
  • 1 SPAR Freshline Granny Smith Apple, grated
  • 1 SPAR Freshline tomato, chopped
  • 1 SPAR Beef Flavoured Stock Cube
  • 60 ml SPAR Cranberries, soaked in boiling water and drained
  • 250ml SPAR Cream
  • 5 SPAR Eggs
  • 4 Bay Leaves


  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C.
  2. Heat oil in a medium pan. Sauté the onions over a medium heat until transparent.
  3. Add the curry powder and spices and fry for a minute until fragrant and then add the beef mince.
  4. Cook until lightly browned and crumbly. Add the apple, tomato, stock cube and soaked cranberries.
  5. Whisk 3 eggs with the cream and season with salt and pepper.
  6. Beat the remaining two eggs together and stir through the mince mixture.Place mince into a greased oven proof dish.Pour over the cream and arrange the bay leaves on top.
  7. Bake for about 45 minutes or until the custard has set.
Serve with SPAR Freshline Cauliflower Rice and a fresh salad.
