Terms and Conditions

A. General

The Party purchasing the SPAR Gift Card (the “Purchaser”) and the Recipient (being the party who the SPAR Digital Gift Card is sent to) both agree to the terms and conditions stipulated herein regarding the acquisition and use of the SPAR Digital Gift Card.

Please read these terms carefully. Your use of our SPAR Gift Card services (including SPAR Digital Gift Card on our websites, SMS, USSD, Mobisite, or smartphone applications) is subject to the current version of these terms published on our website at http://www.spar.co.za at the time of your use. If you do not accept these terms, you may not use our SPAR Digital Gift Card services, and we reserve the right to refuse redemption of voucher/s issued to you. The acquisition and use of the SPAR Gift Cart constitutes acceptance of these terms and conditions.

These terms contain specific provisions that may limit our liability, allocate certain risks to you, or acknowledge certain facts. Please review them carefully, as they could affect your rights or ability to recover potential losses.

SPAR reserves the right to amend these terms of use from time to time without notice. Any change/s will become effective upon publication (which publication shall be placed on our website https://www.spar.co.za Users are encouraged to review the terms before using our services.

B. SPAR Gift Cards/Voucher/S Payment/Tender And How They Work.
  1. SPAR business is based on voluntary trade and accordingly, stores are independently owned. Not all stores operating under the SPAR brand partake in the use/redemption of the Gift Cards/Vouchers. The SPAR Gift Cards/Vouchers are redeemable only at PARTICIPATING SPAR branded stores nationwide (‘The Participating Retailer”). The detail of the Participating Retailer is available on our website http://www.spar.co.za and on the link forwarded to the Purchaser /Recipient (whichever applicable) and after the purchase of a voucher.
  2. Purchase and use of the SPAR Digital Gift Card:
    1. The Purchaser shall be required to have a registered SPAR Rewards Profile and follow the process set out in (http://www.spar.co.za);
    2. The Purchaser shall either acquire the SPAR Gift Card for its own use or for an allocated Recipient.
    3. The Purchaser shall allocate a Recipient by providing the recipient’s details (Cell Phone Number) when making the purchase.
    4. Purchasers shall follow either one of the following processes when purchasing, namely:
      1. Self Service - purchasers under R 5000.00; payment by EFT or Debit/Credit cards and
      2. Bulk Purchase- multiple purchases equal to or exceeding R 5000.00, payment by EFT only
    5. The use of the SPAR Gift Card will require:
      1. Access to the internet/data, to purchase a Gift Card.
    6. When making purchases, the Purchaser/Recipient shall use the wiCode number/Voucher number, QR Code or Barcode number if using Physical Gift Card.
    7. The SPAR Gift Cards can only be redeemed in store and cannot be used for any other purchases (including but not limited to Instant Money, Prepaid Electricity, Bill payments, electronic purchases, banking transactions and payment of any liabilities).
  3. The SPAR Gift Card (including any balance remaining from time to time) may not be refunded or exchanged for cash or credit.
  4. SPAR Gift Card can be used for more than one transaction.
  5. In the event of an available balance remaining after a purchase, a new SPAR Digital Gift Card number will be sent to the allocated recipient.
  6. Validity Period: Pre-Paid SPAR Gift Cards are valid for 3 years from the date of issue. For Spar Digital Gift Cards, this will be stated on the SMS sent to the recipient.
  7. Replacement: If your SPAR Gift Card has been lost or stolen contact SPAR Customer Care 0860 313 141 for assistance
  8. In the Event the of the purchaser sending the SPAR Digital Gift Card to an incorrect number the customer will need to contact SPAR Customer Care at 0860 131 141 for assistance.
  9. Returned products cannot be refunded onto SPAR gift cards, they will be refunded by the retailer as per the Consumer Protection Act.
  10. Neither SPAR nor a Participating Retailer will be held liable for loss, theft copying or general unauthorised use of the SPAR Gift Cards or any malfunctions with respect to the instore point of sale equipment.
  11. For any purchases made against SPAR Digital Gift Card prior to the SPAR Digital Gift Card being cancelled SPAR and the Participating Retailer will not be held liable for damage, all risks in this regard shall remain with the purchaser.
  12. Fraud Prevention: SPAR reserves the right to cancel any Pre-paid SPAR Gift Cards if fraudulent activity is suspected.
  13. Purchase Restrictions: SPAR Gift Cards cannot be used to buy another voucher/s.
  14. To the extent required by SPAR, the Purchaser and/or the Recipient shall comply with any requirements in terms of the Financial Intelligence Centre Act, 2001.

C. Using SPAR’s Systems
  1. When using SPAR Gift Card platforms (websites, SMS, USSD, or Mobi site apps):
    1. You are responsible for any data or communication costs incurred.
    2. Ensure you comply with applicable laws and use the platform only for lawful purposes.
    3. Avoid uploading or transmitting any harmful or illegal content.
  2. SPAR reserves the right to update, change, or discontinue any aspects of its SPAR Gift Card services without prior notice.

  1. SPAR does not always guarantee the availability of SPAR Gift Cards SPAR, and the Participating Retailer shall have no liability where the Gift Card is unable to be redeemed for reasons beyond the reasonable control of SPAR and/or the Participating Branded store.
  2. SPAR and the Participating Retailer are not liable for losses caused by inaccurate Pre-paid SPAR Gift Cards/ details or system malfunctions.
  3. In the unlikely event of liability, SPAR’s responsibility will not exceed the value of the SPAR Gift Card.

E. Protecting Your Privacy
  1. SPAR is committed to safeguarding your personal information.
  2. Your data will only be used to provide the SPAR Gift Card services, personalise offers, or share updates.
