Gardening - three principles

The key principles of gardening are sun, soil and water.

Most plants are going to want a minimum of six hours of direct sun a day, fruiting plants closer to nine hours. Soil should have good drainage and be a mix of sand and compost. Watering is a little tougher as it’s not an empirical measurement, but rule of thumb is to insert your index finger into the soil to the second digit, if the soil is moist you’re ok, if not, water it.
