Winter Warmers

Winter is always such a tricky time for us “outdoorsy” South Africans. We hate having our wings clipped but the cold weather forces us to hibernate. Here are a few ideas to make you warm, keep you warm and fun activities the whole family can do.

Mug Cozy

 You will need:
  • 1 straight sided mug
  • Felt (any colour you like plus scraps to make decorations)
  • Clear glue
  • Press stud

Instructions

  1. Cut the main colour felt to the template given. (You might need to make adjustments depending on the width of your mug)
  2. Cut out flowers, stars, shapes and letters with the rest of the felt.
  3. Glue the decoration onto the felt in the middle of it.
  4. Glue the press stud on either side of the felt.
  5. Wait for it to dry.
  6. Use the Chocolate Spoons recipe to have yummy Hot Chocolate in your mug.

Chocolate Spoons

You will need:
  • 1 slab of chocolate
  • 1 chocolate mould (or ice-cube mould)
  • 6 teaspoons

Instructions

  1. Melt the chocolate.
  2. A great and safe way for kids to do this is by placing the whole slab still in its wrapping into a container of warm water. The chocolate will melt and you can snip the end of the packet and pour it into the mould.
  3. Let the chocolate set a little in the freezer.
  4. Add the spoons and let it set completely in the freezer.
  5. Store in the fridge when set.

To make the hot chocolate
