Spicy Amasi Onion Rings Recipe

Juicy onion rings, dipped in Amasi batter and fried till golden. Serve with a steak of your choice and a crunchy salad.

Recipe Ingredients

  • 3 large SPAR freshline onions
  • 1 ½ cups SPAR Cake Wheat Flour
  • 1 cup (250ml) SPAR Amasi
  • 1 tsp (5ml) paprika
  • 1 tsp (5ml) cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp (5ml) SPAR Salt
  • SPAR Vegetable Oil for frying

Recipe Method

  1. Heat the oil in a large pot.
  2. Peel and thickly slice the onions and separate into rings and add in ½ cup of flour.
  3. Whisk the remaining cup of flour, Amasi and seasoning together
  4. Dip a third of the onion rings, 1 at a time, into the batter to coat and place straight into the oil.
  5. Fry for 2 – 3 minutes or crispy and golden brown.
  6. Drain on a tray cover with roller towel and repeat with balance of onions.
