Precious Mthembu

Originally from Botha’s Hill in KZN, Precious Mthembu’s natural talent and passion and dedication pushed her to become one of SA’s top female athletes, notching up 97 caps for her country.

A former SPAR Protea and ambassador for SPAR’s Women’s Challenge Precious purpose now revolves around instilling a passion for sport in young women. Not only is she an educator and Netball coach at one of KZN top schools, but she also coaches Netball at university level. But that’s not all, she is head coach for the SPAR Baby Proteas; a powerhouse team, making waves internationally.

As a coach, Precious focuses on individualizing her approach to the different personalities and contexts of each young woman she teaches and trains. She recognizes the power sport to elevate a young woman’s future. Rather than pushing a youngster into a team sport, she chooses to nurture those who have a true interest in a sport, encouraging them toward success and grooming them for greatness.

When asked about her own rise, Precious places emphasis on her school education. Although originally from Botha’s Hill, Precious received a scholarship at an early age to attend Danville Park Girls High School. She sees the input and attention given to her by her teachers as integral to her success. Now working as an IsiZulu and PE educator, as well as coaching the schools Netball team, Precious has come full circle, fostering a new generation of superstar athletes.

As an ambassador for SPAR’s Women’s Challenge is excited by inspiring impactful change in the lives of SA’s women. Doing this through a sports lens adds to her passion and enthusiasm.
