Bacon Beer Mussels Recipe

If you love mussels, beer and bacon then this is definitely the recipe for you!

Recipe Ingredients

  • 200g SPAR bacon – either back, shoulder or streaky – finely chopped
  • 2 Tbsp SPAR olive oil
  • 1 SPAR Freshline onion, finely diced
  • 2 SPAR Freshline cloves garlic, diced
  • 2 Tbsp SPAR butter
  • 2-3 sprigs SPAR Freshline thyme
  • 800g half-shell mussels
  • 1 x 340ml can beer
  • 2 Tbsp chopped SPAR Freshline parsley

To serve

  • 2 Tbsp chopped SPAR Freshline chives
  • SPAR Freshline Lemon wedges
  • 8 slices toasted bread of your choice

Recipe Method

  1. In a large pot, cook the bacon in the olive oil until crispy. Remove and set aside then add the onion and garlic and cook for about 6-7 minutes or until soft and starting to turn golden.
  2. Add the bacon back, then add the butter and the thyme.
  3. Add the mussels and beer then add the parsley.
  4. Leave to cook for 5 minutes.
  5. Serve with a sprinkling of chives, lemon and crusty toast.
