Quick Protein Bites Recipe

Beef mince combined with butternut, carrot and spinach, rolled into a puff pastry case and baked until brown and crisp.

Recipe Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp (15ml) SPAR olive oil
  • ½ SPAR freshline onion, grated
  • 1 cup (85g) SPAR freshline butternut, grated
  • 1 medium SPAR freshline carrot, grated
  • ½ cup SPAR freshline spinach, shredded
  • ¼ cup SPAR freshline parsley, chopped
  • 400g Your Butcher By SPAR Mince
  • 400g SPAR puff pastry
  • 1 SPAR egg, whisked

Recipe Method

  1. Heat the oil in a pan and sauté the onion, butternut and carrot over a low heat for 5 minutes or until just soft and set aside to cool.
  2. Mix in the chopped spinach, fresh herbs and mince and season well.
  3. Divide the mince in half and roll into 2 long sausages.
  4. Roll out the puff pastry and cut in half lengthways and brush the bottom with egg.
  5. Place each sausage in the middle of the pastry and roll up to seal.
  6. Brush with the remaining egg and slice into 16 rolls.
  7. Place on a baking tray and bake for 20 minutes at 180º C.
  8. Serve with sweet chilli or tomato sauce.
