Golden Onion Rings Recipe
These puffy, golden rings are awesome with grilled steak, but equally a treat enjoyed by themselves with a cold beer.
Recipe Ingredients
- 2 SPAR Freshline onions
- 1 ½ cups SPAR Freshline buttermilk
- 1 ¾ cups SPAR cake flour
- 1 cup beer
- 1 ½ teaspoons salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon SPAR Freshline thyme, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon SPAR Freshline parsley, finely chopped
- SPAR Sunflower oil for frying
Recipe Method
- Peel the onions and trim off the ends.
- Cut the onions crosswise into 1/2 cm thick slices. Separate the slices to create rings.
- Place the buttermilk in a large bowl and add the onions and soak for +- 45 minutes.
- Heat +- 3 cups of oil in a large pot.
- While the oil is heating, place ¾ cups of flour and the in a bowl.
- In another bowl mix together 1 cup flour, beer, salt, pepper, garlic powder, thyme and parsley.
- Remove each ring from the buttermilk, letting the excess drip off.
- Coat each ring in flour, then dip into the batter.
- Fry rings 6 at a time until golden brown, turning.
- Repeat until all the onion rings are done.
