Durban SPAR Women’s Challenge Charity Announced

05 June 2025

For the second year running, the Durban SPAR Women’s 10/5km Challenge will be supporting Sinethemba Women’s Foundation based in Inanda.

This small organisation has five tiers that assist vulnerable women in their neighbourhood: supporting skills and business development, guiding women on a path towards a promising career, and two that align with SPAR’s values – ending Gender Based Violence and helping young women with menstrual hygiene.

Sinethemba was presented with a cheque of R100,000 after last year’s Durban SPAR Women’s 10/5km Challenge with R5 from each entry being donated to their foundation. SPAR KZN will match that again this year.

‘We at Sinethemba Women’s Foundation gratefully acknowledge the R100,000 sponsorship provided by SPAR KZN to support our organisational mission of advancing the socio-economic empowerment of women in KwaZulu-Natal. A portion of these funds supported our 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) last year.’ said Snenhlanhla Mbatha, the foundation’s leader.

‘It is our firm belief that when you uplift a woman, you uplift the community she inhabits, as women are regularly agents for change. Sinethemba is passionate about all things to do with women, which is why our projects focus on promoting women’s health, eradicating gender-based violence and skills development in our area.’

With the entries capped at 12,000 this year, R5 from every entry will be donated to the Sinethemba Women’s Foundation. To find out more, visit https://www.instagram.com/sinethemba_womens_foundation/
