Cape Malay Spiced Lamb Chops with Tomato Smoor Recipe

Juicy  braaied lamb chops with a spicy tomato sauce.

Recipe Ingredients

Cape Malay Spiced Lamb Chops

  • 3 Tbsp (45ml) SPAR olive oil
  • 3 Tbsp (45ml) Cape Malay spice mix
  • Salt and milled pepper
  • 2 packets Your Butcher By SPAR Lamb Braai Chops
  

Tomato Smoor

  • 2 Tbsp (30ml) SPAR olive oil
  • 1 SPAR freshline garlic clove, chopped
  • 1-2 Tbsp (15-30ml) Cape Malay spice mix
  • 1 Tbsp (15ml) SPAR Tomato Paste
  • 1 can (400g) SPAR Tomato & Onion mix
  • 2 Tbsp SPAR sugar
  • 2 sprigs SPAR freshline origanum (oregano), leaves picked

Recipe Method

  1. For the tomato smoor, heat a pan over medium heat.
  2. Add oil, garlic and spice mix. Cook for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Stir in tomato paste and cook for another minute.
  4. Add the tomato and onion mix, sugar and oregano. Simmer for 15-20 minutes.
  5. Season to taste. Set aside to keep warm.
 
  1. For the Cape Malay spiced lamb chops, mix together the oil and spice mix. Set aside.
  2. Season lamb well and coat with marinade. Allow to marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Braai lamb chops over medium hot coals for 8-15 minutes or until cooked. Baste with leftover marinade as needed. 
  4. Serve with tomato smoor.
