Canned Cornbread Recipe

Surprise your guests with individual cornbread loaves, baked in tin cans for a really traditional braai side dish.

Recipe Ingredients

  • 2 empty tins
  • Spray and Cook
  • 1 cup of SPAR Maize Meal
  • 1 cup of SPAR flour
  • 3 tsp SPAR Baking Powder
  • ½ tsp SPAR salt
  • 3 SPAR eggs
  • ½ cup of SPAR Maas
  • 3 Tbsp. SPAR olive oil
  • ½ cup of SPAR Chakalaka
  • 1 cup of SPAR Sweetcorn
  • Small handful of SPAR freshline coriander, chopped

Recipe Method

  1. Grease the tins with spray and cook, line with baking paper and spray again.
  2. Heat the oven to 180ºC.
  3. Sift the maize meal, flour, baking powder and salt together.
  4. Beat the eggs, maas, and olive oil together.
  5. Stir in the chakalaka, sweetcorn, coriander and egg mixture and mix well.
  6. Spoon into the tins and bake for 25 minutes or until an inserted skewer comes out clean.
  7. Allow to cool in tin before removing.
