Men: Eat better to live better

While women are often open to speaking about their health-related issues, many men are not. As the stress of life, both physically and emotionally, takes its toll on their well-being, it has become increasingly important for men to have these ailments treated.
Studies have shown that nutrition plays a massive role in the health of both men and women. A good diet can easily reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes, cancer and many other illnesses. It also allows for a much richer quality of life. Another benefit is that it allows for the immune system to become stronger, and for an injured body to recover faster.
Illnesses that affect men especially include hypertension, heart disease, prostate and testicular cancer. Here are some nutritional tips to live a better, healthier and more productive life.

Fruits and vegetables

Most adults are aware that they need to consume fruit and vegetables daily. But, did you know that for men the amount is higher? For men, the recommended amount is two cups of fruit, and up to three cups of vegetables a day. Not only do fruit and vegetables have cancer-fighting agents, they reduce inflammation too. They are also rich in vitamins, antioxidants and fibre.

Limit sugar

It may be nearly impossible to completely eliminate sugar from your diet as it is in almost everything. From most store-bought peanut-butters to various types of cereal, it is very difficult to avoid it. What we do recommend, though, is to lower your intake of it. Fizzy drinks, chocolate bars and similar things need to go. Studies have linked sugar to prostate, colon and pancreatic cancer.

Eat more whole grains

Whole grain products are especially good for the male bodies as they are a great source of fibre, magnesium and protein. Examples of this are brown and wild rice, as well as old-fashioned oats.
